After spending five weeks in South Asia, Europe feels like home because the culture is more familiar. However, I made a big mistake upon my arrival in Berlin. I followed the other passengers off the flight, only to realize there were no signs to the baggage claim. It was inside the gate and I was not allowed to go back into the secure area to get my bag. I had to report to the “lost luggage” office and then trek to a creepy container building outside the terminal and next to the control tower to wait for my “lost” bags to be found. Unfortunately, the big World Cup match between England and the USA was being played at the same time, and I had no choice but to wait for over an hour while the baggage workers enjoyed watching the game on the other side of the wall.
